INTERIOR | JAN ULMER

Il lavoro di Jan Ulmer rappresenta una raffinata evoluzione del modernismo. Ciò accade grazie ai delicati contrappunti tra volumi, colori e materiali all’interno di uno stesso intervento.

In questa panoramica spicca il progetto per un appartamento di 150 mq nel cuore di Berlino, dove ha base lo stesso studio. Il contesto è un alloggio su due livelli caratterizzato da strutture e solai in cemento armato a vista, senza alcun tipo di finitura. Per l’architetto questa preesistenza costituisce un vero e proprio tema creativo, giocato sul contrasto tra elementi edilizi e arredo su misura: alle superfici grezze si contrappongono le laccature satinate; al grigio si accostano le tinte calde sui toni del rosa e del rosso; e infine, i volumi schematici vengono ammorbiditi da angoli stondati.

In un gioco dinamico di variazioni prospettiche, la palette cromatica crea unità di micropaesaggio.

Differently brutalist – Jan Ulmer’s work represents a refined evolution of modernism. This happens thanks to the delicate counterpoints between volumes, colors and materials within the same intervention.

In this overview, the project for a 150 sqm apartment in the heart of Berlin, where the studio is based, stands out. The context is a two-level accommodation characterized by exposed reinforced concrete structures and floors, without any type of finish. For the architect, this pre-existence constitutes a real creative theme, played on the contrast between building elements and custom-made furnishings: the rough surfaces are contrasted by the satin lacquers; gray is combined with warm colors in shades of pink and red; and finally, the schematic volumes are softened by rounded corners.

In a dynamic game of perspective variations, the color palette creates microlandscape unity.

FASHION | MISSONI

Sappiamo bene che, nel panorama della moda degli ultimi 70 anni, Missoni vuol dire colore. Anzi, fantasmagorici mélange cromatici che hanno decretato la notorietà del brand varesotto a scala internazionale.

Da Porto Cervo, in Sardegna, ci arriva una cartolina curiosa e allegra. Dalla joint venture tra la casa di moda e la Nikki Beach Costa Smeralda, esclusivo stabilimento balneare, è nato quest’anno un divertente paesaggio balneare. Missoni ha firmato il restyling degli ombrelloni e degli accessori tessili.

A differenza delle sinfonie multicolore della maglieria, qui la palette cromatica è fortemente selettiva. La tinta dominante è l’azzurro, declinato a strisce in varie gradazioni, intervallato da un solo “assaggio” di giallo-verde brillante, che richiama il colore del mare.

Tutt’intorno, arredi in vimini e una natura selvaggia e incantevole.

A summer at the seaside – We are well aware that, in the fashion scene of the last 70 years, Missoni means colour. Indeed, phantasmagorical chromatic mélanges that have decreed the fame of the Varese brand on an international scale.

A curious and cheerful postcard arrives from Porto Cervo, in Sardinia. From the joint venture between the fashion house and the Nikki Beach Costa Smeralda, an exclusive bathing club, a fun seaside landscape was born this year. Missoni signed the restyling of the parasols and textile accessories.

Unlike the multicolored symphonies of knitwear, here the color palette is highly selective. The dominant color is blue, declined in stripes in various shades, interspersed with a single “sliver” of bright yellow-green, which recalls the color of the sea.

All around, wicker furniture and a wild and enchanting nature.

ARCHITECTURE | AMUNT

Questa casa, costruita completamente in legno si trova sulle montagne tedesche e ha una superficie di 110 mq distribuiti su due piani. L’impegno dei progettisti si è concentrato sulla ricerca di una notevole varietà fisica, sollecitata anche dalla topografia del luogo.

Il visitatore (oltre ai proprietari, ovviamente) è accompagnato da numerose e ampie vedute sulla valle e sui dintorni e dalla sensazione di essere dentro e fuori allo stesso tempo. Insomma, la casa intrattiene con il paesaggio un rapporto molto stretto. E non solo a livello prospettico. Lo studio Amunt ha coniugato una spazialità di derivazione modernista – caratterizzata da una spazialità fluida e continua – con l’identità locale: la foresta.

La scala interna e gli elementi d’arredo su misura sono in legno. Nella scala le venature vengono lasciate a vista nonostante la verniciatura in verde, facendo dialogare natura e artificio. Arredi e boiserie sono colorati con una tonalità di verde più chiara, mentre gli infissi gialli incorniciano i diversi panorami.

Material on material – This house, built entirely of wood, is located in the German mountains and has an area of 110 sqm distributed over two floors. The designers’ efforts focused on the search for a remarkable physical variety, also stimulated by the topography of the place.

The visitor (besides the owners, of course) is accompanied by many sweeping views over the valley and surroundings and a feeling of being inside and outside at the same time. In short, the house maintains a very close relationship with the landscape. And not just in perspective. The Amunt studio has combined a spatiality of modernist derivation – characterized by a fluid and continuous spatiality – with the local identity: the forest.

The internal staircase and the custom-made furnishing elements are made of wood. In the staircase, the veins are left visible despite the green paint, creating a dialogue between nature and artifice. Furnishings and boiseries are colored with a lighter shade of green, while the yellow fixtures frame the different panoramas.

FURNITURE | ROCHE BOBOIS

Il mondo dell’arredo oudoor si divide in due categorie. Da un lato ciò che imita (in plastica) gli elementi tradizionali in vimini intrecciato e stile coloniale; dall’altro, le proposte davvero sperimentali e innovative, capaci di portare nello spazio esterno gli stili della casa.

In questa seconda categoria rientra la novità che Roche Bobois ha proposto durante la recente design week milanese. Dopo avere editato una collezione di imbottiti da interno disegnati da Joana Vasconcelos, l’azienda francese ne ha lanciato la versione da esterno. Stesse forme ma colori diversi: la designer ha scelto una palette di toni pastello, luminosi e accoglienti, che disegnano strati e strisce sulle forme organiche dell’intera collezione, costituita da sedute, tavolini, cuscini e tappeti.

Anche se la designer portoghese si è ispirata ai tramonti della vecchia Lisbona, ha creato un mondo che assomiglia a una scatola di caramelle. Da qui, il nome BomBom.

Soft candies – The world of outdoor furniture is divided into two categories. On the one hand what imitates (in plastic) the traditional elements in woven wicker and colonial style; on the other, the truly experimental and innovative proposals, capable of bringing the styles of the house into the outdoors.

The novelty that Roche Bobois proposed during the recent Milan design week falls into this second category. After editing a collection of indoor upholstered furniture designed by Joana Vasconcelos, the French company has launched an outdoor version. Same shapes but different colors: the designer has chosen a palette of pastel, bright and welcoming tones, which draw layers and stripes on the organic shapes of the entire collection, made up of chairs, tables, cushions and rugs.

Even though the Portuguese designer was inspired by the sunsets of old Lisbon, she has created a world that resembles a candy box. Hence, the name BomBom.

INTERIOR | DAWID KONIECZNY

Il tratto distintivo di questo appartamento situato nel cuore di Varsavia, ridisegnato di recente da Dawid Konieczny, è l’uso totale del beige.

La tonalità è soft come le forme che si susseguono nello spazio, ma la scelta di uniformarlo cromaticamente appare molto coraggiosa. Quel colore pervade ogni tipo di componente e di superficie. Anzi, per sottolineare ulteriormente quella rigida coerenza, molti mobili su misura sono stati rivestiti di intonaco e dipinti con la stessa idropittura delle pareti. Ciò vale anche per il tessile, dal divano dalle forme organiche fino alle lenzuola.

La parete curva che separa la zona giorno dalla camera da letto, a sua volta ritagliata con un’altra linea curva, è il punto focale dell’appartamento.

Le tende di velluto sono una sorta di barriera morbida per l’intimità. Nella camera padronale, la struttura del letto è stata ricoperta da un’impiallacciatura disegnata nel 1982 da Ettore Sottsass per Alpi, caratterizzata dalla stessa tonalità.

Unica trasgressione: il bagno verde.

A new kind of minimalism – The distinctive feature of this apartment located in the heart of Warsaw, recently redesigned by Dawid Konieczny, is the total use of beige.

The tonality is soft like the shapes that follow one another in the space, but the choice to standardize it chromatically appears very courageous. That color pervades every type of component and surface. Indeed, to further underline that rigid coherence, many custom-made pieces of furniture have been plastered and painted with the same water-based paint as the walls. This also applies to textiles, from the sofa with organic shapes to the sheets.

The curved wall that separates the living area from the bedroom, in turn cut out with another curved line, is the focal point of the apartment.

Velvet curtains are a kind of soft barrier to intimacy. In the master bedroom, the bed frame was covered with a veneer designed in 1982 by Ettore Sottsass for Alpi, characterized by the same shade.

The only transgression: the green bathroom.

RETAIL | ISABEL MARANT

La collaborazione tra fashion system e arte è sempre più intensa. Questo fenomeno riguarda anche Isabel Marant, che va ampliandoo la sua flotta di vendita al dettaglio: con i nuovi store di Tokyo e dell’East Hampton (New York) raggiunge quota di 81 punti vendita monomarca.

Nella capitale nipponica, la designer ha collaborato con l’artista giapponese Yutaka Sone per creare Yellow House, che mette in mostra le collezioni prêt-à-porter e accessori.

Il punto focale di Yellow House è una straordinaria facciata-installazione che trae ispirazione dalle precedenti serie di Sone, Power of Ten e Obsidian, due serie che prevedono un profondo studio dell’ossidiana, un vetro vulcanico naturale formatosi quando la lava estrusa dal cratere si raffredda rapidamente.

Una suggestione che dà vita a una vera e propria scenografia urbana, con risvolti addirittura psichedelici, a contrasto con il paesaggio residenziale circostante.

Metropolitan obsidian – The collaboration between fashion system and art is increasingly intense. This phenomenon also affects Isabel Marant, who is expanding her retail fleet: with the new stores in Tokyo and East Hampton (New York), she reaches 81 single-brand stores.

In the Japanese capital, the designer collaborated with Japanese artist Yutaka Sone to create Yellow House, which showcases the ready-to-wear and accessories collections.

The focal point of Yellow House is an extraordinary facade-installation that draws inspiration from the previous series of Sone, Power of Ten and Obsidian, two series that involve an deep study of obsidian, a natural volcanic glass formed when the lava extruded from the crater cools quickly.

A suggestion that gives life to a real urban scenography, with even psychedelic implications, in contrast with the surrounding residential landscape.
