Difficilmente, in Italia, nel mondo della scuola vi sono aperture interdisciplinari, soprattutto in tema artistico. La recente iniziativa del Liceo Scientifico E. Fermi di Ragusa, in Sicilia, rappresenta un caso più unico che raro, rafforzata dalla partecipazione di un artista statunitense.

Un paio d’anni fa il cortile della scuola è entrato a pieno titolo nel circuito internazionale dell’arte, oltre a imprimere un fortissimo marchio identitario a quel luogo pieno di ragazzi. Sul pavimento di quello spazio è stata applicata una soluzione pittorica pienamente riconducibile all’ambito della street art, di cui l’artista Hense (ovvero Alex Brewer) è uno dei massimi esponenti.

“Ragusa Sun” è una composizione forte e giocosa, con tinte variegate e vivaci. Calpestandolo, l’esperienza è coinvolgente ed immersiva, mentre osservandolo dall’alto appare come un quadro in forte contrasto con il tessuto storico circostante, dai toni color terra.

In Italy, there are hardly interdisciplinary openings in the school world, especially in the artistic field. The recent initiative of the Liceo Scientifico E. Fermi in Ragusa, Sicily, represents a more unique than rare case, reinforced by the participation of an American artist.

A couple of years ago, the schoolyard became a full highlight of the international art circuit, as well as giving a very strong identity brand to that place full of guys.

On the floor of that spaceit was applied a pictorical solution fully attributable to the street art field, of which the artist Hense (aka Alex Brewer) is one of the leading exponents.

“Ragusa Sun” is a strong and playful composition, with variegated and lively colors. Stepping on it, the experience is engaging and immersive, while observing it from above it appears as a painting in strong contrast with the surrounding historical fabric, in earth tones.

PUBLIC SPACE | NICHOLAS CROFT + MICHAELA MACLEOD

Pink Punch è il nome del progetto vincitore di un recente concorso internazionale di design indetto dai Jardins de Métis di Québec. L’installazione, che discute in chiave fiabesca e pop la tensione atavica tra natura e artificio, è stata smantellata dopo poco tempo, ma successivamente ricomposta in altri luoghi, come fosse un’esperienza sociale itinerante.

Con il suo colore squillante, fuori dai sentieri battuti della foresta, essa attira l’attenzione dei visitatori e li accoglie ai piedi degli alberi, come in un’oasi cromatica tra le ombre.

Gli autori, Nicholas Croft e Michaela Macleod, hanno combinato una tecnica tradizionale di rivestimento protettivo dei tronchi con un vivido rosa fluorescente. Sette alberi sono avvolti a spirale da un totale di 1500 m di tubo in lattice, dall’immediato intorno fino a un’altezza di 3 m. Al suolo, la corda va a circondare la base di ogni albero con una sorta di tappeto/ seduta profonda circa 1 metro.

Pink Punch is the name of the winner project of a recent international design competition organized by the Jardins de Métis in Québec. The installation, which discusses the atavistic tension between nature and artifice in a fairytale and pop key, was dismantled after a short time, but later recomposed in other places, as if it was an itinerant social experience.

With its bright color, off the beaten track of the forest, it attracts the visitors’ attention and welcomes them at the foot of the trees, as in a chromatic oasis among the shadows.

The authors, Nicholas Croft and Michaela Macleod, have combined a traditional protective coating technique of the trunks with a vivid fluorescent pink. Seven trees are spiral wound by a total of 1500 m of latex tube, from the immediate surrounding up to a height of 3 m. On the ground, the rope goes to surround the base of each tree with a sort of carpet/seat about 1 meter deep.

ARCHITECTURE | MADRID

I lavori di costruzione della Biblioteca Reína Sofía, a Madrid, si erano interrotti nel 2011 per ben 8 anni. La facciata è rimasta quasi interamente incompleta, ma solo da tempi recenti il complesso culturale può esprimere in pieno la propria potenza ed energia.

Oltre all’originalità della pianta dalla forma stellata, lo studio BN Arquitectos ha concepito una soluzione davvero dirompente per la vasta superficie delle facciate. Queste sono avvolte da pannelli verticali di terracotta (prodotti in esclusiva da Terrart) montati a secco, dalla forma bombata, a dimensioni differenziate.

L’effetto multicolor, che cambia palette a seconda dei diversi prospetti, ricorda una sterminata libreria, con i volumi che mostrano il dorso, raccontando qualcosa sul contenuto dell’edificio.

La gamma cromatica è molto ampia ed è composta da tonalità di varia saturazione, dalle più brillanti a quelle neutre, con effetto opaco.

Construction works on the Reína Sofía Library in Madrid had stopped in 2011 for 8 years. The facade has remained almost entirely incomplete, but only recently the cultural complex can fully express its power and energy.

In addition to the originality of the star-shaped plant, the BN Arquitectos studio has conceived a truly disruptive solution for the vast surface of the facades. These are wrapped in vertical terracotta panels (produced exclusively by Terrart) dry mounted, with a rounded shape, in different sizes.

The multicolor effect, which changes palettes according to the different elevations, is reminiscent of an endless library, with volumes that show the back, telling something about the contents of the building.

The hues range is very wide and is made up of shades of varying saturation, from the brightest to the neutral ones, with an opaque effect.

SET UP | MATHIEU LEHANNEUR

Il mondo delle sneakers rappresenta la frontiera realmente sperimentale nel design delle scarpe. Sperimentazione tipologica, ricerca anatomica, materiali innovativi sono solo alcuni aspetti di un ambito sempre più evoluto e accattivante.

Sotto il titolo “Playground”, il MADD di Bordeaux sta dedicando a questo tema una mostra (fino al 31 gennaio 2021) assai particolare: i modelli storici con l’autografo del campione che li ha indossati a suo tempo.

Particolarmente insolito l’allestimento concepito da Mathieu Lehanneur, figura tra le più avanguardiste e visionarie del design francese contemporaneo. Esso si struttura su semplici prismi sormontati da cubi di plexiglas. La “diversità” di questo impianto scenico deriva proprio dall’uso del colore: le tre tinte (verde pallido, rosa salmone e giallo chiaro) vengono applicate in modo sfumato, a effetto spray, a riecheggiare le culture urbane giovanili.

The sneakers’ world represents the truly experimental frontier in shoes design. Typological experimentation, anatomical research, innovative materials are just some aspects of an increasingly evolved and captivating field.

Under the title “Playground”, the MADD of Bordeaux is dedicating a very special exhibition (until January 31, 2021) to this theme: the historical models with the autograph of the champion who wore them at the time.

Particularly unusual is the setting conceived by Mathieu Lehanneur, one of the most avant-garde and visionary of contemporary French design. It is structured on simple prisms surmounted by plexiglas cubes. The “diversity” of this scenic layout derives precisely from the use of color: the three shades (pale green, salmon pink and light yellow) are applied in a nuanced way, with a spray effect, to echo the urban youth cultures.

ARCHITECTURE | UNIVERSITY OF ESSEX

Il campus di Southend-on-Sea, realizzato nel 2010 per alloggiare ben 500 studenti dell’Università di Essex, è costituito da vari blocchi ad altezze differenziate, che delimitano tre lati di un vasto isolato.

Sotto un cielo quasi sempre grigio e accanto a un’edilizia tradizionale e timida, il progetto dello studio Marshall si incardina su un coraggioso uso del colore nel trattamento delle facciate, per le quali sono stati utilizzati pannelli laminati ad alte prestazioni.

Il pattern deriva dall’alternanza di cornici rettangolari in verticale e orizzontale che perimetrano le finestre. Sono stati scelti quattro colori: verde, blu, rosso e giallo con uso contrastante di nero, grigio e bianco.

Il ricorso a un sistema di costruzione prefabbricato ha consentito al colore di dare energia alle facciate ottenute con un modulo ripetitivo e di conferire al complesso un’identità inconfondibile nel paesaggio urbano.

The Southend-on-Sea campus, built in 2010 to accomodate 500 students from the University of Essex, is made up of various blocks of different heights, which delimit three sides of a vast block.

Under an almost always gray sky and alongside a traditional and timid building, the Marshall office’s project hinges on a courageous use of color in the treatment of the facades, for which high-performance laminated panels have been used.

The pattern derives from the alternation of vertical and horizontal rectangular frames that surround the windows. Four colors were chosen: green, blue, red and yellow with contrasting use of black, gray and white.

The use of a prefabricated building system has allowed the color to energize the facades obtained with a repetitive module and to give the complex an unmistakable identity in the urban landscape.

FASHION | ISSEY MIYAKE

Fra le poche collezioni maschili presentate lo scorso luglio per la primavera estate 20-21, può davvero incantarci quella di Issey Miyake, denominata “Plissé”. Il designer nipponico ha presentato la nuova linea di menswear solo per via fotografica sul web, ma forse proprio questa soluzione appare – almeno in questo caso – realmente efficace per la valorizzazione della splendida palette cromatica.

Capi dal taglio quasi elementare, ma impreziositi dal celebre tessuto finemente plissettato, che compone casacche, pantaloni, bermuda e borse. Oltre a contrastare la semplicità del disegno con l’effetto dinamico del tessuto a fisarmonica, Miyake punta sulla scelta di colori saturi, accattivanti, che spaziano dal viola chiaro al verde acido, dal blu Cina all’albicocca. La maggior parte della collezione si affida alle tinte unite, con la possibilità di creare dei color block sofisticati ma mai leziosi.

Among the few men’s collections presented last July for spring summer 20-21, the one of Issey Miyake, called “Plissé”, can really enchant us. The Japanese designer presented the new menswear line only through photography on the web, but perhaps this solution appears – at least in this case – really effective for the enhancement of the splendid color palette.

Garments with an almost elementary cut, but embellished with the famous finely pleated fabric, which composes jackets, pants, Bermuda shorts and bags. In addition to contrasting the simplicity of the design with the dynamic effect of the accordion fabric, Miyake focuses on the choice of saturated, captivating colors, ranging from light purple to acid green, from China blue to apricot. Most of the collection relies on solid colors, with the possibility of creating sophisticated but never affected color blocks.
